Dhyana

Meditation — sustained one-pointed awareness, the seventh limb of Yoga.

Dhyana (meditation) is the seventh limb of Maharishi Patanjali's Ashtanga Yoga, defined as the uninterrupted flow of awareness toward a single object or concept. It naturally follows Dharana (concentration) — when concentration becomes sustained without interruption, it becomes Dhyana. The Rishis described Dhyana as the penultimate state before Samadhi (enlightenment). Regular meditation practice transforms consciousness, reduces suffering, and reveals the true nature of the Self (Atman).

Additional Details

Dharana (concentration) → Dhyana (meditation) → Samadhi (absorption). These three together = Samyama.
