Dosha

The three fundamental bio-energies that govern all physiological and psychological functions.

Dosha literally means "that which can go out of balance." The three Doshas — Vata, Pitta, and Kapha — are the fundamental bio-energies derived from the five great elements (Pancha Mahabhutas) that govern all physical and mental processes. Every individual has a unique combination of these three Doshas, known as their Prakriti (constitution). Health is maintained when the Doshas are in their natural balance; disease arises when they are disturbed.
